One of the new programs Legacy Ladies has implemented is a teacher recognition program called: "After the Bell". The organization wants to recognize teachers who go above and beyond the call of duty to help students succeed. What makes this program unique is that the organization asked the students to be the "judge" and establish a measure of excellence for making their selection. One of the requirements was that the teacher has a creative, interactive, and challenging environment for the students to grow intellectually. Twenty names were submitted and the final eight teachers were rewarded. All teachers were rewarded roundtrip tickets on Southwest Airlines due to their exemplary teaching practices. As the Ladies went from classroom to classroom to make their presentation and reward the teachers, the reaction was priceless. Ms. Smith, who was struggling with a decision on how she was going to see her grandmother over Christmas, now had the solution. Ms. Conley, who runs her classroom like a drill sergeant, was now grinning from ear to ear. The winners were Mr. Schaefer (Science), Dr. Ramsey (Science), Dr. Gordh (English), Ms. Smith (Math), Mrs. Gibbs (Language), Ms. Stanton (Science), Ms. Lane (English), and Ms. Conley (Math).
