SAT/ACT Review Program

The purpose and goal of the SAT/ACT Review Program is to assist high school students in undeserved communities of color with improving their standardized test scores, in order to increase their opportunity for admission into college. The SAT/ACT test is the primary criteria for admission to college. Historically, individuals in undeserved communities score lower on standardized test, in particular the SAT/ACT, as compared to the national average. Our organization intends to meet our objective by providing scholarships to college bound students at Crenshaw High School for tuition costs of SAT/ACT test preparation review programs. This would include, but not limited to, conducting seminars on test taking strategies, providing educational counseling, and standardized test taking skills and strategies.

Voices from the classroom...

"I am in the tenth grade and I feel that I need to be in this class because I want to go to college. If I start this early to prepare for these tests I will have a better chance of getting into college and receiving financial aid and scholarships. I noticed that in society today it's required by most top businesses that if you want a job you need a bachelors degree. By the time I am ready to pursue my career I wouldn't be surprised that you would need a masters degree just to get a small time office job. I need this course to fulfill my dreams, so if you feel that I can bring a lot to the table, please let me join this program."
~ Miles Goodloe

"Why I want to attend college is to be a successful black businessman, and to put my family in a better community. I want to learn how to be successful and change the conditions in my community. This is incredibly important to me because I have a ten year old little brother, and I don't want him growing up seeing the things I've seen. I feel I have to go to college so I can be a role model to my family."
~ Derrell Jones

"Just as I stated in the first paragraph the first and foremost reason I want to go to college is because it will help make me the first in my family to become famous. The second reason is because I want to be proud of myself. I want to be satisfied with life to be honest. I've never been proud of myself and I just want to get to the point in my life where I know I've done God's work on this earth and no when my work is done. These are the only things that would make me proud of myself."
~ Darnell Gant

"I am the proud daughter of two wonderful Latino parents and the middle sister of two siblings, Neither of my parents had the chance to go to college and because of that they constantly encourage me to do my best and make something good out of myself. I want to attend college because I want to succeed in life, not because someone tells me to. I do not want to struggle for the rest of my life by failing to appreciate my education like many students in my school occasionally do. That is why I am going to expand my knowledge and live a happy and triumphant life. "
~ Suceli Diaz

"I want to go to college and be able to give back to my community. I know that this workshop would help me improve my testing skills and get familiar with the new SAT which ultimately will help me get scholarships and go to college. Unfortunately my brothers and sister have not been able to go to a four year University and I know that my acceptance to a four year University would really make me and the rest of my family very proud. I want to be in the business field. To get there I know that the road is education. This workshop will greatly improve my skills to pass the new SAT. I know that when I have to take this test, I will be ready because of this opportunity which as been offered to me."
~ Johann Torres

"The main reason why I want to attend this workshop is so I am prepared for the actual test. I need to be prepared for this test so that I know what's expected of me. Another reason why I want to take this workshop is because my cousin told me that the only reason why he scored high on the SAT is because of workshops like this. My main reason for going to college is to make myself a better person and make my family proud."
