Legacy Ladies, Inc. Passes the Torch of Leadership
The Legacy of Transforming Lives Continues
The leadership program is an after school program designed to give the students a vision beyond their classroom. The organization is developing leadership proficiency at their Adopt-A-Schools, Crenshaw High School and Washington Preparatory Charter School. The nine month program focuses on 10th, 11th, and 12th grade African American girls, who have shown academic discipline and are focused on higher education as well as future endeavors.
The program will provide ongoing workshops focused on, but not limited to, financial literacy, team building, critical thinking skills, environmental issues, and development of their leadership skills. The program was launched at the California African American Museum and the culmination ceremony took place at the Radisson Hotel. The colors of red, white, and blue were constant reminders to the young ladies that the possibilities of reaching the White House is not remote with the proper guidance and determination. The program has received endorsement from the principals at the high school, in addition to Ms. Gay Havard, Superintendent of District 3. The sponsors for the program year 2010 -2011, are AT&T, Southwest Airlines, United Parcel Service, US Bank, and Verizon.
