Recipients: Delazurae Cox, Dennis Denman, Miles Goodloe and Angel Harlins
Four students from Crenshaw High School have been awarded scholarships. The students received $5,000 each. Words from two of our recipients:
Delazurae Cox – “My main goal as a young African american young lady is to attend a four year university. My destination is set on college due to the fact I will be the first of my generation in my family to attend a four year university. Due to my background I have witnessed domestic violence in my family, and have grown up with violence surrounding my intellectual skull. This matter has cultivated my decision in double majoring in criminal justice and psychology with a minor in African American Studies.”
Dennis Denman – “My main influence in going to college is my grandmother. After she passed, some thought I would lose my motivation, such as turning to a life of gangs and drugs. None of
that happened to me. Through her, I have a desire to help others. My focus is now on what I plan to do after college. I plan to become an educator. I feel that it is my duty to give back to my community and make a difference. I know this is my calling, to serve others through education. I think that there is no better way to give back to my community than to educate and mentor the students of the next generation.”
