Legacy Ladies: Reflecting on Our Journey and Vision for the Future

Updated: Nov 24

Message of Gratitude

ree

Dear Supporters,

I want to begin by expressing my heartfelt thanks for your unwavering support throughout the past 21 years. Because of your generosity, we have been able to positively impact 11 families and hundreds of young ladies. The commitment these young women have shown to their personal growth, education, careers, and especially to their communities is a powerful reflection of the foresight and dedication exhibited by every Legacy Lady and each of our financial supporters since 2004.

Celebrating Our Image

Legacy Ladies have worked diligently to further our mission. Your involvement and support have been instrumental in helping us achieve these remarkable results, and we are grateful for everything you have done. Today, we wish to not only thank you, but also share our vision for the future.

As with all responsibly managed organizations, it is essential to consistently assess the needs of the communities we serve and our effectiveness in meeting those needs. We are committed to ensuring that both your contributions and our efforts make a meaningful difference in the Black community, especially for disenfranchised girls.

In recent years, we have observed a significant shortage of medical professionals within the Black community, particularly those who serve the Los Angeles area. Recognizing this need, the Legacy Ladies board has resolved to support Charles R. Drew University—a private, nonprofit institution in Los Angeles dedicated to training diverse leaders in medicine and science who are committed to social justice and health equity for underserved populations.

To pursue this vision, we have decided to sunset the Legacy Ladies organization and discontinue our programs working with young women in Los Angeles schools. Our current financial resources will be redirected to support Charles R. Drew University and its female medical students, beginning immediately. We have already awarded scholarships to ten medical students, each receiving $5,000. Later this year, we plan to allocate our remaining funds to Charles R. Drew University to support additional programs and initiatives.

As we move forward with gratitude, I especially want to acknowledge the steadfast support of three sponsors who have served as pillars of our mission since 2004: The McCallion Family Foundation, The Castillo Charitable Foundation, and US Bank. Their commitment has helped pave the way for our accomplishments and set a standard for meaningful partnership. As Legacy Ladies concludes its journey, I encourage each of you to extend your generosity to other small nonprofits striving to make a difference.  Your continued involvement is vital to ensuring that their important work can flourish and that hope continues to reach those who need it most.

Once again, thank you all for your support over the years.

Happy Holidays!
