True to our mission of continuing to transform the lives of disenfranchised young women in the Los Angeles area; Legacy Ladies will use the proceeds of this Charity Golf Tournament to provide scholarships to seniors who are pursuing a career in the medical profession.

The underrepresentation of African American health care professionals has been widely discussed and is critical for several reasons:

• Diversity in healthcare leads to more equitable and unbiased care.

• Approximately 3% of the doctors in California are African American, which is lower than the national average of 5%.

• Black patients can better relate to African American professionals, potentially improving health outcomes.

• More African American doctors, nurses and technicians can help reduce the barriers to healthcare access and quality that are currently experienced by many African American patients.

• Increased representation of African American health care professionals can inspire future generations to pursue healthcare careers and continue to foster a more diverse and culturally competent workforce.
